Alternative Exercise

By Savor - July 11th, 2011

Are you feeling bored or stuck in your workout routine?

When we consider fitness options, the popular means of exercise come to mind: running, lifting weights, yoga… but what if none of these activities sounds like fun?

You may think – “fun? Exercise is not supposed to be fun.” But visitors to the House of Air, the indoor trampoline park in San Francisco, beg to differ. They burn calories by jumping, taking aerial training classes, or playing trampoline dodge-ball.

The House of Air website claims that “10 minutes jumping on a trampoline equates to 33 minutes of running,” and in this gym, you can jump from the walls as well as the floor.

For many of us, trying a new physical activity can be daunting or anxiety inducing. For these reasons, we may avoid potentially fun opportunities to improve our health. If you want to try a new activity, but are feeling apprehensive, remember that you are not alone and think back to the first time you tried something that you now know and love.

All is impermanent. Every moment is an opportunity to embrace change, seek health, and smile.

Breathing in, I am aware of my resistance to try a physical activity.

Breathing out, I cradle my resistance.

By acknowledging and accepting resistance, we take care of this habit energy.  Instead of pushing it away, we help transform this energy of resistance, into energy that supports our wellness journey.
